Sandy Lockwood

Sandy Lockwood (1953- ) was born in London, UK. She started her life as a potter at Derek Smith's Blackfriars Pottery in 1977-78, then studied for a Ceramics Certificate at East Sydney Technical College in 1979-80. In 1981, she established her own pottery at Balmoral Village, near Mittagong, NSW, where she still lives and works, teaching part-time in TAFE colleges, specialising in wood-firing and salt-glazing, and exhibiting widely, both in Australia and overseas. In 2002, she completed a Master of Visual Arts from Monash University. She is known for her fluid forms, decorated with a combination of slips and glazes including the salt-glaze formed in the kiln. She has entries in the potters' directories from 1985 to date, and is referenced in a wide range of journal articles and books. Her works are signed with an impressed 'SL'.
