Peter Rowe and his wife Konnie arrived in Coober Pedy from Melbourne in 1967 to work as opal miners. In 1982 Peter took up pottery and they converted their underground home into a studio and gallery called the Underground Pottery. The business is still in operation and Peter's brother Derek now also works from the studio. They specialise in thrown or hand built stoneware or terracotta functional pieces twice fired and featuring glazes capturing the colours of Coober Pedy and the outback. Peter incises his work 'Peter' and/or stamps it with his personalised pottery stamp. Derek incises his work 'Derek' and/or stamps it with his personalised pottery stamp. Some works just have the pottery stamp.
