Josef Szirer (1939- ) migrated to Australia from Hungary. He started practicing as a studio potter in the 1970s and taught for many years at the Caulfield Institute of technology (now Monash University's Caulfield campus). From 1981 with assistance from the Crafts Board of the Australia Council, he employed trainees to make production ware under the name 'Jo Szirer Studio'. His own works are marked with an impressed 'JS' and some are signed 'Szirer' or 'J. Szirer.
