Suzanne Forsyth (1949- ) completed a two-year ceramics certificate course at the East Sydney Technical College in 1968. In the 1973 directory, she is based in St Ives, NSW, making stoneware sculptural forms and functional pots. In 1974, an Australia Council grant enabled her to do one year of specialised studies at The North Staffordshire Polytech, Stoke-on-Trent, England. Here she learnt mold making and photographic ceramic glaze techniques. She also worked in Scotland for a time while overseas and at some stage had a studio in Glebe. In the 1977 directory, she is based in Copacabana via Gosford, NSW, in partnership with Warren Moorcroft and teaching part-time at Randwick Technical College. She met Rick Hatch while he was completing his studies in ceramics at the University of California, Santa Cruz. They married in California in 1979 and setled back in Australia in 1981, basing themselves for a time at Elvina Bay to the north of Sydney. In 1989, they bought 37 acres of bushland at Armadale, NSW, and established the Weemala Pottery Studio there. Rick incises his work 'R Hatch'. Work made together is incised 'Hatch' or 'R & S Hatch'. Suzanne signs her work with a painted or incised 'Forsyth' or 'S. Forsyth Hatch'.
