The 'Mad in Australia' Design Studio was set up by Dianne Coulter (1948- ) in Melbourne in 1983 to make slipcast ware for the giftware and tourist market. Coulter trained at Swinburne and Caulfield Technical Colleges and has been exhibiting her work since the 1970s. Today she practices primarily as a sculptor. Her design studio works may be incised 'Mad in Australia'. or identified by a paper label 'Mad in Australia handmade 03 434 6469'. Some pieces sold through NSW outlets are labelled 'Mad in Australia ceramics are handmade by John and Lisa Nye'.
