Suzanne Startin (1948-) trained as an art teacher in Newcastle, NSW, and taught for four years, before completing the ceramics certificate and post-certifcate courses at East Sydney Technical College from 1977-79. She shared a studio with Rod Bamford in Ultimo, then in 1981 set up the Down the Lane Potter's Workshop in Forest Lodge with Gwen Whitie, Terry Wright and Barry Blight. In 1982, she became one of the founding members of the Inner City Clayworkers' Gallery in Glebe. In 1983, she moved to St Albans and set up the Wallambine Pottery. From 1996-2007, she directed the St Albans Gallery, showcasing the work of local and regional artists. A retrospective exhibition of her work held there in December 2006 (Journal of Australian Ceramics, 46/2, 2007, 11-13) celebrated a career spanning three decades as a ceramic artist. She has entries in the 1982, 1986, 1988 and 1990 potters' directories. Her work is marked with an impressed 'SS' and/or the six-sided Wallambine Pottery seal.
