Ljubov Seidl was born in Prague, Czechoslovakia, where she worked as a sculptor and painter before emigrating to Sydney. There she became interested in ceramics, using porcelainous stoneware and earthenware to make one-off handbuilt or thrown bowls, platters, vases, tiles and teapots, richly decorated using underglazes, slips, screen prints and lustres. Her painterly surfaces are figurative and historical, referencing memories from her European past (Pottery in Australia, 39/1, 2000, pp. 44-5). She also works as an award-winning sculptor in ceramics, glass and metal. She has an entry in the 1996 potters' directory, where she is based at Oyster Bay. In the 2001 online directory, she had moved to Waterfall. She signs her works with a painted or incised 'L. Seidl'.
