Robert Gordon

Robert Gordon is a commercial pottery supplying ceramic wares to stores across Australia as well as exporting to Canada, the U.S.A. and New Zealand. It is owned and managed by Robert 'Andy' Gordon and his wife Barbara, with a staff of thirty and an extensive catalogue of products, some now outsourced to China. The Gordons began making pottery in 1979 in a tin shed at Gembrook in the Dandenongs, Victoria, which they called the Pack Track Pottery, selling their wares at the St Kilda markets. In 1987, they expanded to purpose-build premises in nearby Pakenham where they are still based today. Gordon's mother, June Dyson, was also a potter. With her husband, Colin Gordon as business manager, she operated a semi-commercial studio at Black Rock, Melbourne, from 1945-1971, as well as opening another studio at Gembrook in 1958. Gordon helped out in the studios in his early twenties, and his four children now work for the business. Wares made at Pack Track Pottery are painted 'Robert Gordon' or 'Gordon' in oxide. Wares made at the Robert Gordon Pottery are stamped 'Robert Gordon Pottery Australia', 'Robert Gordon Pottery Australian Made' or 'Robert Gordon Australia'.
