Rynne Tanton (1944- ) trained as a teacher in New Zealand in the 1960s, teaching himself pottery as part of an art elective. Seeking more formal qualifications, he completed a three-year degree at Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology and was offered a job teaching at the Launceston Art School, remaining there for 24 years. In the 1990s he helped Bernadine Alting run her Underwood Pottery studio just outside Launceston. Well known for his crackle glazes, in the mid 2000s, he set up his own Crickhollow Pottery studio and diversified into crystalline glazes. His works are marked with an impressed 'RT' or signed with his full name.
