Sandy Ryan is a Canberra potter who completed an Associate Diploma in ceramics at the Canberra Institute of the Arts in the second half of the 1980s. She worked first in stoneware but was attracted to brightly coloured decoration from time spent in Thailand in her late teens. She started specialising in high-fired earthenware tableware decorated with underglazes and slips finished with a clear glaze and, sometimes, with lustres for a more formal effect. She is a member of the Canberra Potters' Society and has given classes there. This information is mainly from Cathryn Franzi, "Time for tea", Pottery in Australia, 35/4, 1996, pp. 36-7. Her works are signed with a painted 'SR', SRyan', or 'Sandy Ryan'.
