Jane Barrow
Jane Barrow (1957- ) was born in Bunbury, WA. She has a BA in textile design from WAIT (now Curtin University), but switched to ceramics, obtaining a TAFE Diploma in ceramics in 1975, working as potter-in-residence at the WA Craft Council in 1977, and spending six years as an apprentice in Bizen, Japan, from 1978-1983, working mainly with Isezaki Mitsuru. On her return from Japan, she taught Art and Ceramics at Hamilton College of TAFE, Newcastle and set up a workshop at Ourimbah, NSW, spending some of that time with Andrew Halford. She later moved to Pyrmont then in 2000 to Mooney Mooney on the Hawkesbury River where she currently lives and works. She is known for her unique stoneware finishes made from crushed Mt Gibraltar rock fired in charcoal, and for her complex coloured slip inlay decoration. She marks her works with an incised 'jb'.
