Brian Kemp completed a Diploma of Art and Design (Ceramics) at Gordon Institute of Technology, in 1969, and studied with Haruki Okishio at Minato Kama, Kurashiki, Japan, for three years before setting up his Koyama Pottery in Wallington, near Geelong, in 1975. During the 1980s, he authored two books on fibre-kiln glazes in association with Port-O-Kiln (Aust.) Pty. Ltd. During the 1990s, he taught at the Ceramics Department at the National Institute of Singapore (NIE), coming back to Australia in 1997 and resettling in Wallington. His works are marked with an impressed 'K'.
