Lynne McDowell began potting full-time in 1973. Based initially in Brisbane, she worked on the Boards of the Crafts Council of Queensland and the Queensland Potters' Associaiton and spent a year with the Flying Art School. In 1984, she moved to Healesville, Victoria. In the 1990s, she worked from her Arcadia pottery studio in Olinda, later moving to the Olive Tree Pottery at Woori Yallock, where she has taken part in the Yarra Valley Open Studios since 2009. She specialises in precisely controlled vessel forms in porcelain with incised black line designs inlaid with gold lustre, and also works with terracotta on sculptural garden pieces. Work may be marked with an impressed 'LMcD' or incised 'L McDowell'.
