Cor and Jan De Veth
Cor and Jan De Veth learnt their craft from the Queensland potter Sybil Almond. They established their first studio, gallery (called Cornucopia) and pottery school in 1976 at Stratford, a suburb of Cairns in Far North Queensland, and held pottery classes with Almond for three years before moving to Clifton Beach in 1980. Ten years later, they moved to Tully near Mission Beach where they built a new gallery and home. They specialised in domestic ware with glazes depicting the strong colours of the region and also in projects such as a 36 square metre mural for Cairns Airport. They retired in 2005, selling the gallery and building a new home at Tully Heads where they continued to work part-time and to teach one day a week. Work may be marked with an incised 'De Veth Cairns' or 'De Veth Tully'.
