Kim Martin (1952- ), known for a time as Kim Martin-Harrell, trained at Caulfield Institute of Technology, obtaining a Diploma of Art and Design in 1972. By the time of her entry in the 1977 directory, she was also just completing a Diploma of Education and Teaching at Frankston Technical College. She established her studio in Aspendale, Victoria, working in porcelain and stoneware, and lecturing at RMIT. In the 1988 directory, she is senior lecturer in ceramics there and also craft critic for The Age. She had moved her studio to Malvern and had held eight solo exhibitions in Australia and numerous group exhibitions in Australia and overseas. By 1996, she had moved to North Caulfield and was working with porcelain with carved and painted surfaces. This work formed the subject of her Master's Thesis, "Mystic symbols of ancient Celtic culture reinterpreted in fine porcelain", obtained from Monash University in 1999. By 2004, she had moved to the Melbourne suburb of Armadale and was making thrown, hand built and cast porcelain, bronze and mixed media pieces inspired by the symbolism inherent in Ancient Celtic Art. She is currently teaching at Holmsglen Institute. Her mark is recorded in the 1977 directory as 'K' in a square, and in the 1977 and 1996 directories as a painted 'Kim'.
