Malina Monks

Malina Monks (née Reddish) comes from the Isle of Lewis in Scotland and trained in Glasgow in the 1960s. By 1973, she had moved to Australia and was working with Dennis Monks at the Jenner Road studio in Dural, NSW. She and Dennis moved to Northern NSW in 1977, settling in Terania Creek Road at the Channon and forming a community with potters like Tony Nankervis and Kerry Selwood, who was running the Northern Rivers TAFE ceramic program at the time. They built a house in a steeply-sloped Flooded Gum (Eucalyptus grandis) forest. They are both woodfirers and have several kilns, one based on a double bourry box and a newer one that could be called a long tail bourry kiln. Malina has taught ceramics for many years and her work has been exhibited in a number of awards exhibitions, including the Warwick Art Prize and Gold Coast International Ceramic Art Award. Work may be signed with her full name.
