Poppy Benton (1975- ) was born in Weymouth, England. She trained at the Illawarra Institute in Goulbourn, completing a Certificate in Studio Ceramics and Fine Art in 1993, an Associate Diploma in 1995 and a Diploma in 1997. She joined the Spiral Gallery Cooperative Art Space in Bega, NSW, making slipcast porcelain forms as well as painting and drawing. In 2007, she was awarded the Far South Coast Living Artist scholarship, This resulted in her first solo exhibition at Narek Galleries in 2008, which featured a range of tribal looking vases decorated with sgraffito and rubbed with oxides. She is currently based in Tanja, NSW, and runs the Essential Object gallery at the Old Wharf in nearby Tathra. Her work may be marked with an incised 'Poppy Benton'.
